Neymar's huge Saudi Arabia contract 'could be terminated' as new injury layoff confirmed

Neymar could see his contract ripped up by Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal after being hit with another injury problem.

The Brazilian star barely played in his debut season in the Middle east but returned last month after an ACL issue. However on Monday night he was forced off during Al-Hilal's Asian win over Esteghlal - playing just 29 minutes.

Neymar himself tried to play down the injury concern, claiming it was just cramp, but reports elsewhere have claimed this issue could keep him sidelined for three months. Al-Hilal coach Jorge Jesus said: "Unfortunately, it is not a simple injury and he seems to be suffering from muscle pain and it is not a knee issue.

The club's patience with the former and star is beginning to run thin and Al-Hilal are now considering cutting ties with the player in January, reports .

They have concerns over how much Neymar could contribute in the final six months of the season with his £130million-a-year deal expiring at the end of the campaign.

Al-Hilal are considering a mutual termination of Neymar’s deal in January so that they can get his wages off their books and also look for fresh talent. The 32-year-old is currently one of eight foreign players over the age of 21 in the Al-Hilal squad - which is the club's limit of overseas imports.

The Saudi outfit paid £78m to land Neymar from PSG last year, but have seen little return on their investment. They won the league without him with injuries meaning Neymar has enjoyed just seven competitive appearances for the club, scoring the once.

Ripping up Neymar's contract would open the door for the Brazilian to head back to his homeland and rejoin Santos - the club where he first made his name. There have also been reported that he could reunite with former team-mates and Luis Suarez in the MLS with Inter Miami.

Last term Al-Hilal claimed the title after an unbeaten season and Neymar vowed to be more involved going forward. He said at the time: "I am impatient to be back on the pitch. The fans are unbelievable. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to give them the happiness they deserve but you can be sure that next season we are going to have a lot of fun.”
