People are flocking to an Australian aquarium to see a unique penguin who has become a social media sensation named Pesto.

Among a sea of black and white penguins, adorable and chubby Pesto, dubbed a "big baby" and "line-backer", stands out like a sore thumb. The viral animal has a chocolate brown, fluffy coat. His head towers above his family members and he loves entertaining spectators. He is almost nine months old and already weighs almost 50 pounds - heavier than both of his parents combined.

Sea Life Melbourne said: "Since hatching earlier this year, Pesto has quickly captured hearts globally, not just for his adorable antics, but for his impressive size. He's officially the largest chick Sea Life Melbourne has ever seen, making him a huge hit with guests and fans around the world."

Jacinta Early, the aquarium's education supervisor said: "He's just a big baby. He's eating quite a bit, he's not considered to be an unhealthy weight." Pesto, who was born in January of this year, has a big appetite and eats at least 25 fish a day.

The aquarium stated that pesto is believed to have raked in two billion views worldwide as people have been sharing sweet videos of him. He has been described as "so chonky and cute" and fans love saying "Pesto is the besto". People say they have been flying to Melbourne just to see the cute baby.

Even singer Katy Perry has joined the Pesto fanbase. Earlier this week the singer visited the penguin after a video raked in four million views as aquarium staff members are seen dancing with Pesto to one of Perry's songs. Perry responded, saying she "will come by and get a blessing" ahead of her performance at the Australian Football League's grand final.

The California Girls singer joked: "Visited Pesto last night. he told me who will win in the @afl grand final tomorrow but my lips are sealed." Perry was seen entering the penguin enclosure and blowing bubbles with Pesto.

"Chonky" Pesto is expected to slim down as he grows into adulthood and his iconic fluffy brown feathers will disappear before his black and white coat will appear.

People who want to see Pesto can book tickets with Sea Life Aquarium. Tickets are approximately £25.63 for adults and £18.64 for children.
