People on these four benefits to be handed free £9,747 by DWP as 'extra help'

The says claimants who claim any of four benefits could be owed over £700 extra. The DWP has confirmed people claiming these three benefits are entitled to £749 extra, in a major boost.

DWP has confirmed the annual uprating for disability Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Attendance Allowance starting from April 7. Carer's Allowance is also included in the hikes. The uprating of 1.7 percent will mean that people on disability benefits will get between £29.20 and £187.45 each week, equating to between £116.80 and £749.80 each payment period. This means that over the course of the year, people in receipt of the highest awards could receive up to £9,747 in extra help.

Estimated weekly rates for each benefit for daily living components at the lower care award have risen to (CDP, DLA only) £29.20 (from £28.70) and the standard rate will be hiked to £73.90 (from £72.65). The enhanced rate will go to £110.40 (from £108.55). The Mobility rates at a standard level will rise to £29.20 (from £28.70), while the enhanced level will rise to £77.05 (from £75.75). Attendance Allowance lower rates will move to £73.90 (from £72.65) and the higher rate will be £110.40 (from £108.55)

Carer's Allowance weekly payments will rise to £83.30 (from £81.90) and for a four-week pay period, pay will rise to £333.20 from £327.60). The weekly earnings threshold for Carer's Allowance in England and Wales will rise from £151 to £196, equivalent to 16 hours at the National Living Wage.

PIP is paid by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) but you normally need to complete an assessment before your claim for PIP is approved. If you are required to have an assessment, this can take place in person, over the phone or by video call. During an assessment, you'll be asked to explain how your condition affects your life.
