Princess Kate's little-known hobby and it speaks volumes about her personality

The royal family have a number of hobbies and talents - is a talented painter, was a trained mechanic and is a skilled diver, to name but a few. And while it's no secret that is a keen photographer, she has another lesser-known skill. And it's so sweet!

The mum-of-three revealed all in June 2021 . She was there to meet with some young children and learn about the Urban Nature Project, which focuses on sustainability and biodiversity. To celebrate the launch she brought along a special gift: a jar of homemade honey from , where she and Prince William occasionally live with their three children, , , and .

"Would you like to try some? This came specially from my beehive," she reportedly said to the children, who appeared very happy with their sweet treat. "Does it taste like from the shops? Does it taste like flowers?"

Kate shares her love for homemade honey with her younger brother, , who previously revealed that he is also a keen beekeeper. "Beekeeping to me is a meditation," he previously shared with . "It's a chance to escape my mind and be so consumed by something that hours can pass by without knowing it. Meditation is a wonderful tool to help with stress, anxiety, depression and doesn't just need to be practised sitting down!"

He added, "Honey is one of nature's finest medicines — from antibacterial properties, aiding digestion, , colds, energy, and even as a cure for sleeping disorders — the list goes on. I have a teaspoon of honey every day and couldn't recommend it more."

And while James said that he has always been interested in beekeeping, he largely credits his sister Kate and the rest of their family for allowing his passion to flourish. In 2011, the Middleton family collectively saved up to surprise James with his own box of buzzing bees. "My family — mum, dad and my sisters Catherine and — clubbed together to buy what for me was the most fantastic birthday gift imaginable," he recalled in an article he wrote for the . "A delivery van arrived with a large buzzing box with the cautionary label: 'Live Bees.' Inside was the nucleus — the start — of my colony: 1,000 Buckfast bees."

Princess Kate and her brother are by no means the only famous beekeepers. has at his Cotswolds home, while is believed to have installed a beehive at his sprawling Suffolk estate.

is also a and is known to have beehives at and at his country home in Tetbury. The beehives there are integrated into a large organic farm and the gardens are said to be filled with plants and flowers that are attractive to pollinators. Some of the honey the bees produce can even be bought by the public from the Highgrove Gardens website.
