Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney - a breakdown of their staggering new court case

Send Push

The Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney court case is still ongoing due to money dispute between the former friends.

It has been reported that the pair are due to go back to court today to sort out what Rebekah has reportedly called a "ludicrous" legal bill after the Wagatha Christie case. Rebekah was previously ordered to pay £1.8million to Rooney due to legal costs.

Rebekah was ordered to pay 90% of Coleen's legal costs after unsuccessfully suing the star for libel. However, it seems that she is prepared to fight back as she reportedly claims it has been inflated by Coleen. The large bill includes an array of charges which Rebekah is said to not agree with.

The legal bill is said to be three times what Vardy budgeted for, after apparently preparing to pay £540,000. A preliminary hearing commenced today at the High Court where Rebekah's legal team presented her argument.

A break down of the bill which is being challenged includes a £2,000 charge for her solicitor's stay at London's five-star Nobu Hotel and a £225 food and mini-bar tab. Vardy's legal representation are arguing that there are a minimum of £120,000 worth of costs that have been charged to her which were outside of the liable time frame.

They are also disputing what they claim is an unexplained six-figure discrepancy between expected litigation costs and the final figure. Allegations also involve reported exaggerated hourly rates from London-based law firm Stewarts and Liverpool's Brabners.

A source told The Sun over the weekend: "As far as Becky is concerned, they have been trying to pick her pockets because they think they can get away with it.

"They underestimated their costs and are over-billing her. From the costs of experts to legal fees, the figures are ludicrous. They've taken a kitchen sink approach and are trying to get as much out of her as they can. Why on earth would her lawyer need to have dinner at somewhere so exuberant that cod costs £52 - and expect Becky to foot the bill? Becky won't stand for it. She will keep fighting in court until she feels there is a fair outcome."

Mrs Justice Steyn ruled in 2022 that it was "substantially true" that Rebekah had leaked Coleen's private information to the press and ordered her to pay 90% of Coleen’s costs.

The Wagatha Christie saga began in 2019 when Coleen, via a now iconic revelation, accused Rebekah of leaking 'false stories' about her private life to the press via watching her private Instagram Stories. Rebekah hit back, vehemently denying the charges and initiating libel proceedings in 2020.

The has approached Rebekah and Coleen's representatives for comment.
