Roman Kemp lined up for new Match of the Day role as Gary Lineker shake-up continues

Roman Kemp is emerging as an unlikely candidate for a role on once departs.

Speculation has been rife since the news broke over . And there are seemingly plans to shake the popular show up in a bid to appeal to a younger audience.

It's now been claimed that BBC director of sport, Alex Kay-Jelski, is lining up for a 'digital role' as part of those plans.

A source told : “Match of the Day is moving with the times and next season there will be more of a focus on digital highlights. Alex has been speaking with Roman about possibly coming on board and how it could work.

"Roman has a massive following online and is hugely popular with a younger audience thanks to his years hosting the Breakfast Show on Capital FM. He is also a huge fan and knows what he is talking about when it comes to football.

“It is very much in the early stages but Match of the Day is coming into a new digital age and Alex would love to have Roman front and centre.”

While it remains unclear what Kemp's role would involve should talks come to fruition, Kemp has broadcasting experience and currently fronts The One Show alongside Alex Jones.

The BBC recently struck a new highlights deal with the which enables them to show match action before their traditional 10.30pm time-slot on Saturday nights. The corporation are expected to 'put a renewed focus' on their digital output in light of said agreement.

It remains to be seen who will replace Lineker as the show's new main host. , who fronts , has emerged as one of the favourites, while others including have also been touted as potential options.

It was claimed earlier this week that Kay-Jelski was keen on the prospect of Chapman and Kelly Somers sharing hosting duties, with the former 'refusing' such an idea.
