Paul Waring was left furious with a spectator in the second round of the on Friday, after the Englishman was put off in his back swing.

After Waring was once again good shape in the season finale in Dubai, carding a four-under-par 68 in round one. And he built on this momentum on Friday, making four birdies on the front nine to leave him one shot behind leader, Antoine Rozner.

It had been a near-perfect opening nine holes for but things soon took a turn after the Tour veteran was heckled during his backswing when making an approach into the 10th green.

When taking the club back, a loud shout from those watching on led to Waring making poor contact, leaving him well short of the green and in the bunker. The Englishman was visibly frustrated, but was still able to keep his cool when tossing his club back to his caddie, no doubt biting his tongue.

The Sky Sports commentary box were left as shocked as Waring by the shout, with on-course reporter Wayne Riley commenting: "That was nasty, right on the downswing." Waring - who is playing at his home club at the Earth Course - has plenty of friends and family out there supporting him.

At first, Riley claimed that it was one of his followers in question who made the premature shout. It was later cleared up that it was not a member of Waring's party, and was instead another member of the gallery who reportedly made a sharp exit on the back of the heckle.

The call clearly unsettled Waring, who failed to get up-and-down from the sand before going on to make his first bogey of the day. Having then composed himself, the Abu Dhabi HSBC champion went on to make three-straight pars before getting one back with birdie at the par-five 14th.

Despite the rest bite, Waring once again lost his grip on the tournament as a nightmare run followed. Having gone bogey-free on his opening nine, the 39-year-old added three on the bounce from 15 to 17 to go along with his first of the day at the drama-filled 10th.

He was able to stop the rot on his final hole of the day at the 18th, after the Englishman safely made par at the par-five to leave him at five-under-par for the tournament. Waring will head into the weekend four shots behind 36-hole leader, Rozner in a bid to win his second-straight playoff event in the Middle East.
