Ruben Amorim comes face-to-face with first five Man Utd stars after appointment confirmed

Ruben Amorim has finally met members of his new squad at , just under two weeks since he was appointed.

While on 1 November, he remained with Sporting Lisbon for three more games. The 39-year-old , along with members of his coaching staff.

The group boarded a flight from Beja airport in Portugal to Manchester in the morning, just hours after orchestrating in their final match in charge of Sporting.

They immediately travelled to United's Carrington training ground where , sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.

While many of his players are away on international duty, Amorim did have the chance to meet some of his new squad. Pictures released by United show the new boss with his hand behind Luke Shaw's head in the Carrington gym.

Also in that area, Amorim met , placing his arm around the midfielder's waist as he smiled at the Englishman before giving him a hug. The United chief also gathered in a group with Leny Yoro, with Amorim shown laughing with the defender.

He also had the chance to get to know , with pictures showing him speaking to then hugging the England international. The final player pictured meeting the new boss was Toby Collyer.

Collyer was shown speaking to Amorim while the coach put his arm around the academy star's back. The quintent are currently sidelined with injury, hence their presence at the training.

Amorim will likely meet the rest of his players next week ahead of his first game in charge. That will come on 25 November away at struggling Ipswich Town, who are managed by former United coach Kieran McKenna.

The new boss' first major decision also came on Monday with the confirmation that interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy had been let go, along with the rest of Ten Hag's staff. Van Nistelrooy had been eyeing a role under Amorim, but the Portuguese boss has opted to cut ties.

"Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach," United said in a statement.

"Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.

"Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also departed and we wish them all well for the future. We will confirm the full men’s first team coaching composition in due course."

United have spent a hefty sum on Amorim, due to the release clause in his contract with Sporting. He has signed a three year contract with the Red Devils, with the club option of an additional year.

When announcing his appointment, the club said: "Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years."
