Scott McTominay reveals key difference between Man Utd and Napoli after summer switch

Scott McTominay has opened up about the differences between the Premier League and Serie A following his summer move from Manchester United to Napoli.

McTominay joined Napoli in a £27.5million deal and the midfielder has made an impressive start at his new club. Napoli are unbeaten in all four games he has played so far, picking up three wins over Cagliari, Palermo, and Monza and drawing with Juventus.

And the Scotland international has been impressed by the tactical side of Italian football, admitting the "tactical work is more intense" than it is in England. "They are very different," McTominay told Radio CRC when asked about the differences between the two leagues.

"In Serie A I would say there is much more tactics that you need to know, your role within the team and with your teammates. Physically you make your presence felt, the Premier League is very different but also Serie A.

"The tactical work is more intense in Italy. I was very impressed by the level of the Italian championship, from England I wasn't always able to realise how I can do it now. I was impressed by the technical level of the teams but also of the players, starting with my teammates."

McTominay has also been impressed by Napoli boss Antonio Conte, who has previously won league titles while managing Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan. "Conte's game is very flexible," he added.

"You don't play in just one position; you have to learn to do many things and absorb the right information to help your teammates achieve results. I feel very comfortable in the position the coach is playing me, it helps me reach the goals we set.

"I've played in more than one position on the field but in midfield, I've both attacked and defended as number 8s do tactically. I've had the chance to occupy more areas of the field, but always with the aim of helping my teammates.

"We have a lot of confidence in the group. We look at the next game after each match and keep the good things we do behind us. We're making progress, listening to the coach and staff, and doing what they ask of us."
