Scottie Scheffler's caddie screams at fan after wife subject to 'derogatory' remark

A fan was ejected from the Presidents Cup on Saturday for making a derogatory remark about the wife of golfer Scottie Scheffler, Meredith.

During the crucial match where World No. 1 Scheffler and his partner Russell Henley secured a 3and2 win over Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im, contributing an important point to the American team's 11-7 lead against the International team, the incident occurred.

Scheffler's caddie, Ted Scott, was reportedly incensed by the comment, as per The Athletic, and confronted the heckler beyond the ropes to "scream" at him.

Scott Scheffler, Scottie's father, later confirmed that the offensive spectator had been removed from Royal Montreal following his inappropriate outburst directed at Scheffler's wife, who recently gave birth to their first child, Bennett, in May.

The disruption took place at the 16th hole but didn't throw Scheffler off his game; he sunk the winning putt shortly after. Despite being three down after six holes earlier in the round, Scheffler and Henley made a stunning comeback to clinch the victory with two holes remaining.

Henley addressed the media, stating that they put the incident behind them quickly and refocused on the game. He said, "No, not really," when asked if they had talked about the incident during play. "Once it happened, we just kind of refocused and got back in it."

Scheffler remained tight-lipped and didn't join the post-round press conference, leaving his on-the-course drama unaddressed. The Presidents Cup has seen its fair share of spats with barbed exchanges flying between both locker rooms, pushing the event towards a boiling point.

Team USA, however, with Jim Furyk at the helm, had near total domination in Saturday's matches, nabbing six out of eight points and just 4.5 shy from a complete victory, needing only that amount from the dozen singles games on Sunday to secure the trophy.

Again clashing clubs across the Canadian green, Scheffler is set to face Matsuyama in Match 3. Having already bested the Japanese player last Sunday, Scheffler has every reason to believe he can lead his squad to triumph once more.

Despite trailing, the International team isn't short on grit, with Canada's own Taylor Pendrith voicing his belief in a comeback: "Just keep fighting, we're right there," remarked the hopeful Canuck post-match. "Obviously we need a big day and everyone has to step up their game for us to score the points needed, but we're in this and a strong Sunday could clinch it. It's all about bringing their A-game."

"Just keep fighting, we're right there," Canadian said after the end of play. "Obviously we're going to need a really solid day, and everybody's going to have to play great to put points up on the board, but we're right there and a really good day tomorrow can win this thing. Everybody's got to bring their best stuff."
