Selena Gomez says she finds money talk 'distasteful' but is 'honoured' to be a billionaire

Selena Gomez has admitted she finds it "distasteful" to discuss her financial status, despite recently becoming a billionaire thanks to her cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty.

Speaking to 'Entertainment Tonight', the 32 year old actress said: "I'm very grateful. I personally think it's distasteful to talk about money. But I really am giving all the credit to the people who buy the products. They're the ones that made this dream of mine come true. So I'm really, really honoured and just happy."

The 'Only Murders in the Building' star grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas with a single mother in what she has described as a "really rough neighbourhood". She recalled times when they ran out of money for basic necessities while her mother struggled to make ends meet.

She shared: "I can remember about seven times when our car got stuck on the highway because we'd run out of gas money. My mom gave up everything for me and had three jobs. I remember always being reminded that people had less than we did, and we didn't have much. But I felt like we did because my mom was always doing a hundred million things just to make me happy, and we volunteered at soup kitchens on Thanksgiving."

Selena, who kick-started her career on 'Barney and Friends' in the early 2000s, made guest appearances on Disney Channel's 'The Suite Life of Zack and Cody' and 'Hannah Montana' with Miley Cyrus before landing her own show, 'Wizards of Waverly Place', in 2007. She reportedly bagged $30,000 per episode across four seasons, making her one of the wealthiest child stars around.

Post-'Wizards', Selena's fortune soared into the tens of millions as she embarked on a booming pop career accompanied by sell-out tours. The stunning star's net worth has now hit an astonishing $1.3 billion, according to Bloomberg, which has featured her on its Billionaires Index for the first time.

Bloomberg attributes the "vast bulk" of Selena's wealth to her beauty brand, Rare Beauty, which she founded and owns. With a massive social media presence, including over 400 million Instagram followers, Selena has also partnered with major brands such as Puma and Louis Vuitton throughout her dazzling career.
