Most importantly, the experts recommend that switching from baths to showers can be a smart way to cut down on water use.

According to the experts, a typical bath uses around 80 litres of water, while a five-minute shower with a standard showerhead only uses about 12 litres per minute. If you are able to turn the shower off between cleaning parts of your body, you can save even more.

For anyone who still prefers to take a bath, the experts said: "Try filling it halfway to avoid wasting water and be mindful to plug the drain before you start filling. Adjust the temperature gradually as the bath fills rather than waiting for the water to warm up first."

For even more savings, the experts suggest the following.

For even more savings, the experts suggest installing a water-saving showerhead or handset. These devices limit the volume of water flowing through which could save up to 50% of your usual water usage.

Turn the tap off while brushing your teeth

Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth can save up to six litres of water per minute. Instead of leaving the water running while shaving, try filling the sink to rinse your razor or switch to an electric shaver, which doesn't require water or shaving cream.

These simple changes can help cut down on water waste in your daily routine.

Hang bath towels to dry

It’s recommended to clean your towel after three uses and hang it to dry between washings to save on water and energy. Using a towel rail or towel ring can help them dry faster and stay fresh for longer.

Just by making few simple changes you could help to reduce the amount of water wasted and cut down bills, while still being able to enjoy your everyday ablutions.
