Strictly Come Dancing star Chris McCausland has said he is covered in bruises after intense rehearsals.

The comedian said he and professional dancer Dianne Buswell have found this week of rehearsals a tough one as the two of them are a bit worse for wear. Chris opened up on Strictly spin-off show, It Takes Two where he said the duo had both sustained injuries as they rehearsed their dance for this week which is a Salsa.

He didn't hold back as he said the last week has been the hardest week of training since he joined the show but he has been determined to perfect the routine. Speaking to show host Janette Manrara, Chris said: "It's been intense. There has been more lifts in it than Canary Wharf! There is tricks and lifts and we are both covered in bruises."

Chris them pointed out Dianne's legs and they said that she had to put body makeup on the cover up the bruises she had sustained. Chris joked: "She's had to use make-up to cover up all over her legs so it doesn't look like I've been beating her up. It has been full-on."

Despite the injuries, Dianne said that their training has been going well. Chris had made history this year when he became the first blind contestant to perform on .

The TV star has been called an inspiration and has opened up on the condition that left him blind aged 22. His loss of sight came from a hereditary condition called retinitis pigmentosa.

According to the National Eye Institute, early symptoms of the condition include loss of night vision and side vision, while vision loss and blindness comes later. The organisation says the condition "makes cells in the retina break down slowly over time, causing vision loss". As of yet, there is no cure of retinitis pigmentosa.

Last year, Chris talked to about his condition, saying: "My grandmother had it, and my mum. Basically, I'd been going blind very slowly since I was born, and so didn't even really notice it happening. Like the frog in the pan of boiling water."

He went on to describe his experience of blindness, saying: "They say that when you lose your sight, your hearing gets better. It doesn't. But you do pay more attention to it. So when you're sat at a beach resort, and you're hot, and you can't see what's around you, then you just end up concentrating on how hot you actually are. I suffer more for it."
