Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans has shared a surprising detail from his recent dance over the weekend.

It comes as the Welsh opera singer, 52, performed a Rumba to This is My Life by Shirley Bassey with dance partner Katya Jones on Saturday night, culminating in a dramatic surprise ending sung by Wynne himself.

Appearing on Wednesday's It Takes Two, Wynne was asked about the dramatic operatic ending, which divided fans at the time, as he shared a surprise detail.

Wynne said: "It was a really strange performance because it's one of those, as an opera singer, you know, you have to try and stay in control as much as you can in order to sing to keep the vocal chords quite relaxed so they can work and in this I was getting too involved sometimes, I was thinking: 'I've just got to keep it calm' because I know I've got to sing at the end."

To which host, Janette Manrara, was left stunned as she exclaimed: "Imagine, so thinking of all the Rumba technique and then that as well!"

On Saturday night, which was a first for the One series with an icons theme, the then 10 remaining celebrity contestants and their professional partners danced to tracks by legendary artists.

Wynne, alongside his dance partner Katya, honoured Shirley Bassey with a Rumba to This is My Life, culminating in a dramatic surprise ending sung by opera star Wynne himself.

Host Tess Daly couldn't hide her amazement, exclaiming: "That blew the hair off the back of my arms, that was something, we know Wynne can sing!"

Judge Anton Du Beke was equally impressed, proclaiming: "The best ending to a number I've ever seen in my entire life, unbelievable!"

Despite receiving mixed reviews from the panel, Wynne humorously suggested: "Can we just pretend it's a song contestant instead, is that okay?" He later discovered he had scored an impressive 30 points.

Taking to , now X, fans were split over the unexpected twist, observing that it is supposed to be a dance contest, not a singing competition. Some comments from viewers included: "It's not the ? #Strictly", "didn't realise I was watching x factor #strictly" and "it's not a singing contest #strictly" while another tweeted: "Someone wants to tell Wynn he doesn't get points for singing!"

Nevertheless, some viewers expressed their admiration, with tweets like: "Really loved Wynne's routine and the powerful and inspiring message it gave, not to mention the amazing vocal finish at the end! He should be really proud! #Strictly" and "Wynne was amazing! #Strictly!"

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday at 6:35pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
