The Lincoln Lawyer actress Becki Newton's life from landing How I Met Your Mother role to celebrity cousin

The Lincoln Lawyer's third season has dropped on Netflix, with Becki Newton returning for the new episodes.

The latest instalment hit the streaming platform last month, featuring Mickey Haller's (played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) second ex-wife and office manager Lorna Crane, a role brought to life by Becki Newton.

As whispers of a fourth season circulate, fans are eager to delve into the 46-year-old actress's life when she's not dazzling on screen.

Early start

Newton, hailing from Guilford, Connecticut, has been in the acting game since her early teens, treading the boards in local shows and summer stock theatre before bagging a degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

In 2000, she took a bite out of the Big Apple, aiming for Broadway stardom and snagging spots in national ad campaigns.

Her TV break came with guest spots on hits like Law and Order SVU, American Dreams, and Cold Case, but it was in 2006 that Newton scored big with her regular role as Amanda Tanen in ABC's Ugly Betty, a gig she rocked for four seasons.

Famous family

Off-screen, Newton's love life is just as captivating as she is hitched to Canadian actor Chris Diamantopoulos, famed for his role as Russ Hannerman in HBO's Silicon Valley.

A serendipitous encounter at Times Square subway station led to an impromptu invite to his show, The Full Monty. Recalling the moment to New York Magazine, Newton gushed: "It could have been creepy but it was so cute!"

The couple tied the knot in 2005 and have since welcomed four children, with their latest addition arriving in 2022.

Interestingly, Newton isn't the only celeb in her family - she's related to 'American Sniper' actress Sienna Miller, as first cousins once removed.

Newton, famed for her roles in 'Layer Cake', 'Alfie', 'Stardust', 'The Edge Of Love', and the series 'Anatomy Of A Scandal', discovered her Hollywood connection a bit late.

Talking with People magazine in 2015, she shared: "I didn't find out until a few years ago that her dad is my grandmother's brother."

She recounted, "She grew up in the UK so she was never at any of our family functions."

How I Met Your Mother role

Besides her widely recognized performances in 'Ugly Betty' and 'The Lincoln Lawyer', Newton grabbed attention for her portrayal of Quinn, Barney Stinson's (played by Neil Patrick Harris) partner, in the sought-after sitcom 'How I Met Your Mother'.

Instead of waiting for an audition call, Newton took the initiative by pitching herself for the part.

She revealed her bold move to TV Guide: "I was watching the show and I thought to myself, 'I would love to play a female version of Barney. And more than that, I would love to play off Neil Patrick Harris.'".

"It seems they were thinking along the lines of finding a romantic interest for Barney, which lined up perfectly with my self-pitch," she said.

With enthusiasm, she recalled, "I told them my dream and I'm so grateful that they didn't think I was totally insane! And a few months later, it all came 'true' and now I'm Quinn."

The Lincoln Lawyer is available to watch on Netflix.
