The first instalment of the film franchise premiered in 2008 and quickly became a box office success. Based on the books by author , director Catherine Hardwick stuck fairly religiously to the novels' storyline, with only a few minor changes.

However, a deleted scene that has been shared again on social media has left some fans feeling completely baffled. Posted by user Corinne (@corinnieeeee) who loves to dissect all things Twilight related, the cut clip was from when Bella goes to Edward’s house to meet his family.

Corinne said in a voiceover: “I suppose we have to revisit what I consider the second most cringe Twilight deleted scene, the infamous Chinchilla dropping scene. Again, be warned this is extremely cringe.”

Fans of the movies will be familiar with the scene when Bella goes into Edward’s bedroom and starts looking at his stuff and he then plays her Debussy’s Clair de Lune. However, at this point she starts picking up his belongings, including a rain stick, and shares a baffling story from her childhood.

Bella says: “I used to have a chinchilla and me and my mom used to make these out of the chinchilla’s droppings and like paper towel rolls. Maybe that’s .”

The camera cuts to Edward’s face who unsurprisingly looks perplexed by what he’s just heard and is possibly regretting getting involved with Bella Swan.

Commenting on the deleted scenes, Corinne says: “So obviously I hate that but my biggest takeaway from that is who has ever said or done that, and thought that that would be a good thing to include in this film?

“Because once again, that particular detail about the chinchilla droppings, that’s not something we can blame Stephanie Meyer for, that’s a Catherine Hardwick that’s not even in the book. This was even included in the extended version of the film.”

People watching Corinne’s analysis were in hysterics with everyone agreeing it was incredibly cringey. One person laughed: “This is so cringe and that's saying something seeing as the entire film is cringe.” Another user noted: “Lmao AND her stance while looking at the books.” And a third person added: “Wait, I’ve never seen this. You’re right, it’s beyond cringey.”
