Weather maps are turning red this week in the UK showing the probability of snow falling in an .
After a mild start to November temperatures are plummeting this week due to polar air moving southwards and the has several yellow weather warnings in place for snow and ice over the coming days.
“It will be a cold and unsettled week across the UK. Snow and ice will cause disruption for some, with new warnings issued,” said the Met Office. “An Arctic maritime airmass already over northern Britain spreads southwards into the rest of the UK on Tuesday, in wake of an Atlantic low clearing into northwestern Europe.”
It is predicted as well as up to 20cm of snow falling. And maps from WXCharts showing the probability of snow, with a dark red showing 100%, indicate the areas where the flurries are likely to fall.
For Tuesday morning the dark red is massed around parts of northern as well as central and northern England, and North Wales. Then another map for Wednesday evening shows parts of Scotland coloured red and there is less likelihood of snow in England.

The Met Office yellow warnings for snow and ice are currently in place from Monday to Wednesday, affecting parts of Scotland, the whole of Northern Ireland, parts of northern England, North Wales and the north Midlands.
Dan Suri is a Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office and said: “An area of low pressure slides its way eastwards on Monday night. The associated frontal system, marking the boundary between cold air in the north and milder conditions to the south, will bring disruptive snow to some areas between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
“This is likely to coincide with rush hour, leading to disruption to some transport routes across a central swathe of the UK on Tuesday morning. It will also be windy in the far south. Updates to the warnings throughout the week are likely, so it is important to stay up to date with the latest forecast”
And similarly forecaster Elizabeth Rizzini has warned of a “blast of winter” this week. "A risk of further snow and ice tonight, and an overnight frost as we head through the rest of the week ," she said. "We are likely to see some snow for a time across Northern Ireland, particularly over higher ground, into North Wales and northern England too.
"Over the Pennines there could be as much as 5cm to 10cm, more snow than that perhaps over some of the higher trans-Pennine routes and even into the north of the Midlands, parts of Lincolnshire as well a dusting of snow, a few centimetres always possible. But a lot of uncertainty on the northern and southern extent of that wintry weather.
"It will be followed on by some icy stretches so take care if out and about tomorrow morning, some treacherous driving conditions out there. As the low clears away then we could see a little bit of a wintry mix perhaps across East Anglia at times and into the far south and east of England especially over the higher ground.”
