UK maps have pinpointed a freezing blast of cold air that appears set to topple temperatures into the low minus range.
The mercury has recently dropped across the country, with many areas feeling more autumnal even in some of the typically warmest areas, among them . Temperatures in the capital have reached the mid-single figures, around 6C, some of the lowest lows seen in the city since early 2024.
Further north, in northern England and beyond, conditions have turned desperately cold, with single-figure highs in much of during the day and parts of the northeast like Newcastle. Maps from WXCharts suggest it will only grow colder still, and forecasters believe they have spotted a trend.

The latest WXCharts maps show a blast of blue air encroaching on the UK from the Arctic Circle, travelling over Norway before washing over the country and vast swathes of Europe. Temperatures high in the atmosphere seem set to drop down to -5C and below, with -12C lows in dark Northern Europe.
Additional maps show the blast could have an impact on surface level temperatures, dropping them as low as 0C in southern England and down to -2C around Yorkshire and beyond. forecaster Jim Dale, the chief meteorologist with British Weather Services, suggested the "consistency" in the weather models signals a coming trend.
The forecaster even suggested there could be some snow on the horizon. He said: "There is beginning to be consistency in the models, the UK will slip into a much colder regime of Arctic weather on the 16th and 17th of November for several days, with widespread ice, along snow for some - not just Scotland!"
The doesn't expect the forecast to be quite as dramatic over the period, with the agency predicting largely dry weather to continue alongside the odd sunny spell. The long-range forecast, which covers November 12 to 21 - and is subject to change - suggests that, at the worst, the UK will become rainier, windier, and frostier.
The forecast states: "Likely still a good deal of dry weather during the middle of next week. Most areas should be largely dry with a good chance of sunny spells but also scope for overnight frost in clearer areas. The influence of high pressure is likely to decline through the course of next week with an increasing chance of showers or longer spells of rain, initially more likely in the east.
"However, there is currently significant uncertainty in how quickly conditions turn more unsettled. Thereafter, likely more mixed conditions conditions with some wetter, windier weather at times but also some drier interludes bringing the chance of morning fog patches. Temperatures overall around average though with potential for some rather cold spells."
