UK's cheapest supermarket for Christmas shopping revealed - it's not Asda, Lidl or Tesco

Once again Aldi has been named as the cheapest supermarket for food shopping by consumer champion Which?.

For a second year in a row, Which? has named as the best place to do your Christmas food shop, and with the low price range of the retailer’s festive food range it’s easy to see why. But it’s not just Aldi’s low prices that put it in the top position, a whole host of the retailer’s dishes beat out competitors for quality and taste.

The survey that Which? put together, to determine which supermarket has the best festive offering, was filled in by over 8,000 people, with Aldi topping three festive food categories and beating out competing like , , and . The budget-friendly retailer topped the best supermarket for pigs in blankets, stuffing, and fresh veg, with each dish rated on quality, taste and value.

In the survey, respondents were asked where they rated best for their Christmas food essentials, with Aldi being chosen as best place to shop. The supermarket achieved a score of 84% and beat the likes of at 82%, Waitrose at 80% and Lidl at 78%.

Cheapest and most expensive UK supermarkets

According to Which? in October Aldi retained its crown as the cheapest place to shop generically, charging £111.66 for 62 own brand items. Lidl followed closely behind at just 41p more.

Tesco was the cheapest of the bigger brand supermarkets costing £122.26. Waitrose was officially the most expensive, with a similar shop coming in at £142.39.
