Vanessa Feltz crumbled when cheating ex sent her shock text meant for another woman

Send Push

TV and radio queen has not been lucky in love.

In fact, as she admits: "My entire love life has been a complete abomination, catastrophe, an absolute fucking car crash."

But some blows feel harder than others. The night her ex-fiance confessed to cheating and she had found herself alone in a London street at night. Then her fiance sent her a string of texts. Only they weren't meant for her....they were meant for another woman.

Ahead of the release of her brand new book, the 62-year-old broadcaster has been reflecting on her past - and came to one conclusion: She still believes in love but she's learning from her old relationships. And this one certainly left her with a lot to think about.

According to , she'd been enjoying a family dinner at a West End restaurant in January 2023, when her then-fiancé Ben Ofoedu decided to slip away in a taxi early - before she'd even finished off her meal.

Fed up with what they perceived as disrespectful behaviour on the part of their future stepfather, let her know about a tip-off they'd received from an online troll - who'd claimed he was being unfaithful.

It was then that her philandering fiancé's web of lies finally began to unravel, leaving stunned. And things only got more upsetting from there.

Once inside the cab, Vanessa confronted her then-partner, who was 10 years her junior, leaving him 'spluttering, stuttering, expostulating'. She recalled: "I didn't understand because he wasn't making sense."

Finally, her then-fiance confessed he had indeed been messaging another woman. Vanessa would later learn that this had been carrying on for more than a year.

Remembering that night, Vanessa revealed: "I couldn't stand another second. I couldn't bear it. I opened the door of the moving taxi and jumped. My coat was torn. Blood was seeping from a cut on my arm. I assumed he would stop the cab and follow to see if I'd survived the leap. He didn't."

Instead, things went from bad to worse when the man she had spent 16 years with then sent her a series of texts - which were intended for the other woman. He then posted photos of himself at a party on . Vanessa changed the locks that night, and hasn't seen him since.

Preferring never to utter his name again, Vanessa cheekily refers to her former beau as 'One Hit Wonder' (OHW) - in reference to his 1999 hit. And although he's chosen to be vocal about their relationship, she's decided to rise above.

Vanessa explained: "I tried to take the high ground on it and not say anything at all, but it's made me pretty miserable. Especially as I had loved this person. And I think I had been a loving and kind, loyal, sort of decent, faithful, smiling, encouraging kind of partner. I don't think I'd done anything to deserve that."

The LBC star isn't going to let the bad experiences of the past get her down however. She's been out every night bar one since the split - and has had some very interesting dates, which she hilariously chronicles in her memoir, which is being serialised exclusively in the this weekend.

She's now made a vow: to learn from the past but not to let a couple of bad experiences stop her from finding love.

She said: "I've been single for 21 months and counting. It's not my happy state. But I'm certainly not going to be plunging in with any old renegade who comes along and says they like my eyes.

"I won't be going 'Here's my cheque book', 'Come and take a kidney, what would you like?’ ‘Please let me give you half my house immediately’. I’m not doing that anymore.

“I'm just not doing that. I've got to have learned something from all of this, haven't I?, and I hope I've learned that anyway.”

Frank and honest, Vanessa hasn’t got time for fame seekers either: “My last relationship has put me off dating anyone who’s a wannabe,” she says.

“Some just want to grab your coat tails and let you drag them up a red carpet. And I’ve really just about had enough of being somebody’s access-all-areas lanyard.”

You can’t blame her.

She adds: “I hope that one day, Cupid will tap me on the shoulder, and I will find true love again. I would like to be able to say to a man, ‘I love you’. I really miss that.”

, by Vanessa Feltz (Transworld, £22), is published on October 24.
