Lots of people love the idea of having a pet, especially kids.
If you have children, they've probably asked for a pet dog at some point or another. While the idea may be daunting in some ways, there are certain that are great for families.
Amir Anwary, known as @amirthevet on , recently offered his professional advice as to what breeds make a great addition to the family home. The vet said some are particularly good due to the fact that they are adaptable, have great temperaments and are generally quite patient.
Before anyone rushes to buy one, he did note that you have to judge each dog on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes he said you have to look at the individual dog and see if it's right for you, as each animal is different.
But, generally, there are common breeds that are good if you're looking to add a furry friend to the family. He shared his ultimate top five in a recent video.

Irish SetterIn fifth place is an Irish Setter. The high-spirited gundog is known for its grace, swiftness and gorgeous red coat.
They are famously known for being good pets for families, as they are generally sweet-tempered. They also love playing, and are great at fetching tennis balls for children.
BoxerNext up are Boxer dogs, which are celebrated for being upbeat and playful. Due to the fact that they are patient and protective, they have long been praised for being good with children.
They take their job as the family protector and watchdog seriously, never shying away from alerting you to potential dangers.
BeagleCheerful Beagles snagged the third spot. Their lovable nature, boundless happiness and friendly disposition make them fantastic companions for any household.
LabradorAmir also heaped praise on Labradors, which are celebrated for being one of the most affectionate and playful breeds around. They're especially good with kids, not to mention their high energy levels are perfect for families with young ones.
Golden retrieverHowever, topping the list for the ultimate family dog, according to the vet, is the Golden Retriever. This breed stands out for its trainability and gentle nature with children.
They're not known for being noisy, which is a bonus for those who prefer a quieter home. Despite their quietness, they're incredibly popular.
The video has racked up thousands of views since it was posted, sparking a flurry of comments from dog lovers everywhere. Irish Setter enthusiasts were particularly quick to share their affection.
One viewer commented: "Never understood the hype of Golden Retrievers until I got one. They are perfect."
Another chimed in with: "You forgot Rough Collie. Outstanding family dog." A third added: "We all know who number one would be."
Meanwhile, one more said: "We have a lab and a golden. Both were basically born trained."
