Why is Las Vegas Grand Prix taking place on a Saturday? Unique F1 schedule explained

Formula 1's Las Vegas Grand Prix will be the third race of the year hosted on a Saturday.

It's a rare occasion in the sport's calendar with only racedays in and not taking place on the more typical Sunday. , albeit for an entirely different reason.

Traditional F1 weekends facilitates drivers opening their campaigns with first and second practice sessions on a Friday. Saturday sees third practice and qualifying, while Sunday sees the conclusion of proceedings with the Grand Prix.

Bahrain and Saudi Arabia saw their races brought forward due to Ramadan. Sin City sees a differing schedule as the sport's chiefs look to accommodate as many people as possible. There is a desire to host F1's stars on evening to see the race track .

That sees lights out 10pm local time. A Sunday night race in the United States would see events unfold at 6am on a Monday morning and 7am for nations who abide by Central European Time.

As a result, Saturday night has been chosen to accomodate multiple audiences. F1 hope to make every effort to get an American audience on board, but hope this scheduling also satisfies theirEuropean audience.

This weekend could see Red Bull racer claim his fourth title. The Dutch driver will be confirmed as champion unless McLaren's Lando Norris can make up three points in Nevada.

Race organisers in are already tentatively planning for the possibility that Verstappen is crowned as world champion once again. In the event of the 26-year-old claiming the title, there is an ambition to put on a memorable celebration.

"I am sure that we would be able to pull some ideas out of our hat, maybe pre-arrange some pretty exciting opportunities," said Renee Wilm, chief executive of the event. "When you consider the properties on the Strip - Wynn and Encore are second to none in terms of the highest class of hospitality.

"Then, of course, you have the Bellagio further down the Strip, with those iconic fountains, and the level of VIP service that the Bellagio offers. There are so many opportunities to highlight the drivers, and particularly if we actually do have the benefit of being able to get a champion [crowned]."
