A woman was left stunned after discovering a hiding under her sofa.

On the morning of Sunday, October 6, the ARK Wildlife and Dinosaur Park in Stickney was alerted by a distressed resident of Boston, Lincolnshire, who had found the cowering under the furniture in her living room. The park's owner, Michelle Mintram, said sometimes they will receive calls about , including a boa constrictor found by a landlord, and an American cornsnake discovered in Spilsby conservatory.

Reptile expert Jamie was deployed, armed with a snake hook and carry case, to investigate what was happening. When he arrived, the terrified family-of-four were waiting outside in their garden, fearing the snake may have been venomous. But Jamie soon put them at east when he identified the intruder as a harmless Florida Kingsnake.

Using his tools, he managed to capture and remove the 3ft snake, which was most likely an escaped pet. It wouldn't have survived long out in the open in Lincolnshire due to being native to Florida, where temperatures are considerably higher.

Michelle shared: "The snake, temporarily named Mickey after one of Florida's most famous, was taken back to the Ark to be warmed up and given a health check. Apart from a small sore patch on his nose, Mickey appears to be in good health despite his ordeal and has already eaten at the Ark," reports .

"If anyone has lost a Florida Kingsnake in the local area please contact the Ark at info@arkwildlifepark.co.uk. The Ark team will need to see proof of ownership. In the mean time he's safe and well and if no owner comes forward he'll stay the Ark." For more information, you can reach out to reptile expert Jamie on 07546 295977.
