What is Normalization in Exam: UPPSC has implemented the normalization process in the PCS 2024 preliminary examination and RO/ARO preliminary, which the candidates are opposing. Let us understand in simple language how the number is taken out from this formula.

There is a ruckus regarding the PCS 2024 preliminary examination and the Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer 2023 preliminary examination of Uttar Pradesh Public Service. Till late at night on 12th November, thousands of candidates demonstrated at the gate of the UPPSC office regarding their demands. Candidates have demanded the process of normalization that the commission has put in these examinations. It should be removed and the examinations will be conducted in one day and one shift. In such a situation, let us know how the number of a candidate is decided by the normalization formula.

According to the schedule released by UPPSC, the PCS 2024 preliminary examination is to be conducted in two shifts on 7th and 8th December. The exam has been scheduled in the first shift from 9.30 am to 11.30 am and in the second shift from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. At the same time, the RO / ARO preliminary examination is proposed to be held on 22nd and 23rd December. The exam will be held in two shifts on 22 December and in one shift on 23 December.

UPPSC: For the first time, two major examinations will be conducted in a month

For the first time, the commission is going to conduct two major examinations in the same month. About 5 lakh candidates have applied for the PCS preliminary examination and about 10 lakh candidates have applied for the RO / ARO preliminary. The protesting candidates are demanding that the commission conduct both these examinations on one day and in one shift.

What is Normalization: How is the number decided by the normalization formula?

The second demand of the candidates is that the normalization process implemented by the commission in both these examinations will be removed. This process is applied in examinations conducted in more than two shifts. According to this formula, to know the percentage score of a candidate, the quotient of the number of all the candidates securing equal or less marks than the marks obtained by him and the total number of candidates appearing in the examination of that shift has to be multiplied by 100. This formula is used to calculate the percentage score of the candidates in the examination.

What is UPPSC Normalization: Why are the candidates opposing the normalization formula

The percentage score of the candidates in each shift will be calculated by the normalization formula and then the merit will be made from this. The percentage score of the examination of both the shifts will be different, because the number of candidates in the examination of both the shifts will not be the same. Due to which the candidates are likely to suffer loss. Therefore, the candidates are opposing it. When the exam is held in a single shift on the same day, then this formula will not be required.

What is Normalization in Exam: In which exams is the normalization formula applicable?

Staff Selection Commission's SSC CGL, Police Recruitment Exam, Railway Recruitment Board, CUET and many other recruitment exams, which are conducted in more than two shifts. Normalization formula is being used to calculate the percentage score of their candidates.
