The Kannauj district horticulture department has recently launched a scheme that will help farmers in the region meet their irrigation needs. Under this scheme, farmers can avail 80 to 90 percent subsidy on drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, which will help them save water as well as increase productivity.
What is drip and sprinkler irrigation?Drip irrigation: The main purpose of drip irrigation is to deliver water directly to the roots of the plants. In this system, water pipes and tubing are laid underground or close to the ground, with small holes in them through which water reaches the plants drop by drop. This method prevents wastage of water and provides water and nutrients to the plants as per their requirement.
Sprinkler irrigation: In sprinkler irrigation, water is delivered through pipes to special sprinklers that spread it like rain. This scheme is especially useful in large areas where water needs to be spread evenly. Sprinkler systems are buried at or below the ground surface and reduce water consumption as it reaches the crops directly without much evaporation.
Amount of grant and beneficiariesFarmers will get the following subsidies under this scheme:
- Small and marginal farmers: 90 percent subsidy on drip and myco sprinklers, 75 percent subsidy on raingun sprinklers.
- Other Farmers: 80 percent subsidy on drip and myco sprinkler, 65 percent subsidy on raingun sprinkler.
