What is MRP?

MRP means Maximum Retail Price, which is the highest price fixed for a product in India.

It was made mandatory under the Consumer Protection Act 2006.

Legal Protection:

Selling goods at a price higher than MRP is illegal. Unfortunately, many consumers face this problem without knowing their rights.

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution oversees consumer rights in India.

How to lodge a complaint:

If you find a shopkeeper charging more than the MRP, you have the right to complain.

You can call the National Consumer Forum helpline at 1800-11-4000 to lodge a complaint.

Online complaint registration:

Complaints can also be filed online at ConsumerHelpline.gov.in.

To do so, follow these steps:

Visit the official website and sign up for an account.

Log in using your email ID and password.

Provide detailed information about the product and the shopkeeper, including their name and address.

Upload any relevant documents to support your complaint.

If your complaint is validated, appropriate action will be taken against the shopkeeper.
