If you are also troubled by the scam calls coming every day, then there is good news for you. Google will now give you freedom from spam calls. Google on Wednesday launched two new artificial intelligence (AI) security tools for Android devices. These tools aim to provide real-time protection to users from phone call-based fraud and dangerous apps.

The first tool is Scam Detection in "Phone by Google", which monitors the conversation pattern of calls to determine whether an incoming call could be a potential fraud.

The second tool is real-time alerts under "Google Play Protect", which monitors the background activities of installed apps to identify harmful apps.

Google's new AI safety tools
Google has explained both these new security tools in detail in its safety blog. Both these features are being released first on Google Pixel 6 and newer models. The Scam Detection feature will initially be available only to users who have signed up for the Google Beta program and the feature will only work on English-language phone calls. At the same time, Google Play Protect's live alerts will also be available to users outside the US.

The Scam Detection feature is different from other caller ID apps and services, which only identify calls using phone numbers and calling patterns. Instead, Google has developed the ability to process the conversation pattern of the call in real time using its on-device machine learning models. In the Pixel 9 series, this task will be done by Gemini Nano.

Google gave an example that if the caller claims to be from the user's bank and asks to transfer funds due to a security breach, the AI model can process the audio information to find out if this type of conversation pattern has been used in other fraud.

When detecting the possibility of fraud, the AI will give an audio and haptic alert and also give a photo-based warning. The feature will be off by default and users can turn it on for all calls or a specific call from the Phone app settings.
