If we talk about recent years, with the growing technology, spam calls have made the lives of people miserable, taking an important step to protect telecom users to stop this problem, the government's Department of Telecommunications has taken strict steps in collaboration with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Recently, the department has blocked 1.77 crore mobile numbers, which were being used for fraud and nuisance calls.
The new action comes after a series of efforts to deal with the growing problem of fake calls. TRAI introduced a new policy last month, which gives telecom operators the right to independently block marketing and fraudulent calls, eliminating the need for whitelisting.
The Department of Telecommunications reports that on average 1.35 crore fake calls are being blocked per day. Apart from the 1.77 crore numbers already blocked, the department has also blocked around 7 crore fake calls within just five days based on public complaints.
