New Delhi [India], October 8 (ANI): Dr P Venugopal, former director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82.
Dr Venugopal, a pioneer in cardiac surgery in India during the 1970s, conducted the country's first-ever heart transplant at AIIMS, New Delhi.
Over his career, he performed more than 50,000 heart surgeries.
His cremation will take place on October 9, 2024, at the Lodhi Road Crematorium in the afternoon.
Dr. Venugopal, along with his wife Priya Sarkar, had recently published his memoir titled Heartfelt: A Cardiac Surgeon's Pioneering Journey, which was released on July 7 this year.
He will be remembered by patients, families and medical professionals whose lives he touched throughout his illustrious career. (ANI)
