Ambala (Haryana) [India], November 6 (ANI): A thick layer of fog blanketed the Ambala city early Wednesday morning, reducing visibility. It marked the season's first fog that arrived after a delay of over a week.
City residents expressed concerns as the fog, combined with reduced visibility, made breathing difficult and released an odor after mixing with atmospheric pollution.
Pankaj Dhiman, who set out for a morning walk in the vicinity spoke to ANI and said, "This is the first fog of the season, this time it came late. Along with the fog, there is a smell in the atmosphere, which is causing trouble breathing. There are issues of cough and sore throat amongst the residents here."
Vinod Giri, another local who was out for a walk said, "I go for morning walks everyday and there is a weird smell in the atmosphere. The fog mixed with smoke and pollution is causing cough, sneeze and irritation."
Manveer, a school student also complained about the same and said, "Sore throat and breathing problems are some issues from the fog. We are facing the same troubles when we set out for school early in the morning."
Winter has set in Haryana and the first fog of the season was witnessed in Ambala city on Wednesday. The fog in the morning led to low visibility, causing traffic congestion as vehicles on the road slowed down.
The residents are facing difficulty in breathing in this weather because due to the fog as well as pollution in the air. Locals complained of sore throat and cough.
Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remained 'very poor' on Wednesday morning with a thin layer of smog covering several parts of the national capital for the sixth consecutive day post-Diwali.
Thick toxic foam was seen floating on the Yamuna River in Kalindi Kunj, as the pollution level in the river remains high.
The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Delhi government as to how the ban on bursting firecrackers in the national capital to curb air pollution was flouted during Diwali celebrations.
The bench directed the Delhi government and the Police Commissioner of Delhi to file affidavits highlighting what steps they propose to take so that this thing does not happen next year. (ANI)
