In a shocking incident, a man and four members of his family have been charged for hatching a conspiracy for murder and burial of newborn twin girls in Delhi's Sultanpuri. The grim incident, had come to light in June.
The Delhi Police’s 800-page chargesheet, submitted to Rohini Court in August, names Neeraj Solanki (30), the father of the girls, alongside his parents, Vijender Solanki (60) and Chand Kaur (56), his brother Dinesh (32), and sister-in-law Monika (37). The accused are charged under sections related to murder, foeticide, infanticide, common intention, and dowry harassment.
According to a report by the Times of India (TOI), the tragedy unfolded on June 1, just days after the twins were born on May 30 at a hospital in Rohtak. Neeraj and his family, dissatisfied with the birth of girls, conspired the cold-blooded act. Pooja, Neeraj’s wife, had been discharged from the hospital and her twins were taken away on pretext of accompanying to her parents’ home in Ismaila, Rohtak.
However, the family took the infants to Sultanpuri, where they were allegedly murdered and buried in a bid to erase evidence.
Investigations reveal the crime was deliberate and pre-planned. The family deprived the newborns of critical nourishment and medical care, leading to their deaths. To hide evidence, the infants were buried in a secret location, and their mother was kept in the dark. "Neeraj neglected the newborns, murdered them, and, with the help of his father, buried them without informing his wife," the chargesheet states. It further implicates Chand Kaur for facilitating the crime and Dinesh and Monika for their complicity.
Pooja, a BSc graduate who married Neeraj on February 2, 2022, alleged that her in-laws pressured her for dowry and expressed their preference for a male child. During her pregnancy, she was also forced to undergo a sex determination test, which she resisted.
