Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das who is set to host the 2024 International Emmy Awards has pushed his Dublin show due to Schengen visa issues.
Das, previously nominated for an International Emmy in the Comedy category in 2021, wrote on social media platform X, “Applied for a double entry Schengen. The Swedish embassy in their infinite wisdom give me a single entry one and reject my tour assistant saying they don’t believe he’s going to return to India. Now I have to push a Dublin show because I can’t leave Schengen. What a week!”
Netizens react:
Many people reacted to Das’ post.
“Same here. I applied for multiple entry Schengen and got single entry. Always apply for multiple entry. I do not understand this Visa game. Schengen area should have multiple years tourist Visa like US or Australia. Both the nations scrutinize application heavily but once they provide visa things are easy,” said one user.
Another user said, “EU has become extra cautious with visas. try for Multi entry 1 year visa, maybe it works.”
Indians' Schengen visa woes:
Indians were among the top five nationalities with the most rejected Schengen visa applications in 2023. Out of the 151,752 visa requests filed by Indian nationals, a substantial number were denied. This led to an estimated loss of €12.1 million in visa application fees for Indian applicants, highlighting the financial burden on those attempting to travel to Schengen countries.
In 2023, Schengen states rejected a total of 1.6 million visa applications, resulting in €130 million in generated funds, according to SchengenNews. Among the affected nationalities, Indian applicants faced significant financial losses due to high visa rejection rates.
