Dehradun: Six young people died in a car crash in Dehradun on Monday. The victims were returning from a party when their vehicle, a multi-utility vehicle (MUV), collided with a container truck.
The accident occurred near the ONGC intersection, a ToI report said. The MUV was traveling at high speed and hit the left rear side of the truck. Police Inspector KC Bhatt stated that early findings suggest the truck driver was not at fault. “Since the MUV’s driver, who owned the vehicle, did not survive, we are looking into legal alternatives as no charges can be filed posthumously,” said Bhatt.
The impact of the crash was severe, killing five of the passengers instantly. The sixth passenger died later in the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Guneet Singh, Kamakshi Singhal, Navya Goyal, Rishabh Jain and Atul Agrawal, all residents of Dehradun, and Kunal Kukreja from Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. The sole survivor, Siddhesh Agrawal, is currently hospitalized.
CCTV footage shows the MUV accelerating sharply before the crash. A nearby restaurant owner reported seeing the MUV speeding shortly before the accident. “The car was speeding on the wrong side toward us. I had to swerve quickly,” he said. The restaurant owner alerted police to the speeding vehicle but no action was taken.
Police are currently investigating the accident.
