Actress Aishwarya Lekshmi, known for her powerful roles in Malayalam cinema, recently spoke candidly about her decision to never marry. During an interview to promote her upcoming film Hello Mummy, she shared her deeply personal thoughts on marriage, revealing how her views evolved over time. The 34-year-old actress, who has starred in a variety of successful films, explained that her thoughts on marriage have undergone significant changes as she grew older.
"When I was younger, I imagined getting married, especially around the age of 8, 10, and even 25. I pictured myself tying the knot at Guruvayur, influenced by my mother’s devotion to the temple," Aishwarya reflected. "It was a childhood dream, something I thought would bring happiness."
Aishwarya's Shifting Perspectives on Marriage
However, as Aishwarya matured and observed the relationships around her, her perspective shifted. "As I got older, I started noticing that many people around me were not happy in their marriages. Most seemed to be living with compromises, and few appeared to truly grow as individuals," she said. At 34, Aishwarya feels that her decision is based on a clear understanding of what she wants from life. "I realized that marriage isn’t something I want for myself."
Aishwarya’s decision was not a hasty one. She clarified, "I don't believe in the institution of marriage. This is not a decision I made impulsively. I took time to reflect on the people I know and the experiences I’ve had." She explained that while she once entertained the idea of marriage, the reality of seeing many unhappy marriages made her rethink her stance. "In all these years, I've seen only one family that truly seems happy together—and they’re not Malayali. It made me question whether marriage, as I once thought of it, is what I truly need," she added.
A Matrimonial Profile, But for Laughs
Interestingly, Aishwarya admitted to creating a profile on a matrimonial site in her earlier years, albeit for humorous reasons. "I once joked with my mother about setting up a matrimonial profile for me, paying for it myself. People thought it was a fake account," she said with a laugh, highlighting the irony of her situation.
Despite her views on marriage, Aishwarya remains open about her career and personal choices, expressing her excitement for her latest film, Hello Mummy, which is set for release on November 21. In the film, she stars as Steffy, alongside Sharafudheen, and a talented cast that includes Aju Varghese, Jagadish, and Sunny Hinduja.
Challenging Societal Norms
Aishwarya’s candid revelations have sparked conversation about societal expectations of marriage and individual choices. Her decision not to marry is a reflection of her personal growth, and she encourages others to explore their own paths in life, free from societal pressures.
"I’ve come to understand that marriage is not something I need in my life to feel fulfilled. For me, the freedom to grow and pursue my own journey is what matters most," she concluded, emphasizing the importance of personal choice in shaping one's future.
