Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy reiterated his statement of not believing in work-life balance at the CNBC Global Leadership Summit.
Murthy said that KV Kamath, Independent Director and Non-Executive Chairman of Jio Financial Services, had once said that since India is a poor country with lot of challenges and we need to worry about those rather than about work-life balance.
Murthy further said that PM Modi, his cabinet ministers and bureaucrats are working very hard for the nation.
"When PM Modi is working 100 hours a week, the only way to show our appreciation for the things that are happening around us is by our work," said Murthy, adding that he was disappointed when the country moved from six days work week to five days in 1986.
"We need to work hard in this country. There is no substitute for hard work. Even if you are the most intelligent guy you have to work hard. So I’m not taking back my view. I will take it to my grave," said Murthy.
He also said that he himself went to the office at 6:30 am and returned at 8:40 pm, which is 14 hours and 10 minutes for six and half days a week till he retired. "I’m proud of it," he added.
