IPL 2025 Auction in Jeddah: Mallika Sagar returns as auctioneer

Send Push
The stage is set for the IPL 2025 mega auction, which will take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25, with Mallika Sagar returning as the auctioneer, TOI reported on Friday.

Sagar, who made history as the IPL’s first female auctioneer last year, brings over two decades of experience to the role. She previously conducted the Women's Premier League (WPL) auction and the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 8 auction.

Mallika replaced Hugh Edmeades as the IPL auctioneer in 2024, breaking a long-standing tradition dominated by male auctioneers like Richard Madley, Edmeades, and Charu Sharma.

Who is Mallika Sagar?
An art collector from Mumbai, Mallika Sagar, is quite known in the sports fraternity. The 48-year-old brings almost 25 years of experience in auctions and has had her previous stint with Pro Kabaddi League auctions, before her first shot in cricket.

A specialist in modern and contemporary Indian art, Sagar, brings her experience in auctioneering from Mumbai's famous Pundole's Art Galleries, where she has led several auctions. Remarkably, at the age of 26, she was the first Indian auctioneer for Christie's.

Additionally, she was the pioneer of contemporary Indian art auctions.

Franchises Gearing Up for the Auction
As the two-day event approaches, IPL franchises are deep in preparation to finalize their squads for the 2025 season. With player retentions complete, teams are conducting trials across India to identify their key targets for the auction.

Teams like Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Mumbai Indians have already wrapped up their trials, while Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants are set to hold theirs after the ongoing Ranji Trophy matches conclude on November 16, the TOI report further said.

A total of 1574 players have registered for the auction, with the final shortlist expected to be released soon. With only 204 slots available across the 10 teams, competition will be intense as franchises aim to assemble balanced and competitive squads.

High-Stakes Auction for Star Players
This year’s auction pool features several marquee Indian players, including Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul, all of whom are expected to spark bidding wars. Teams seeking captains will likely have these players high on their wishlists, adding to the intrigue of the event.

Each franchise can sign up to 25 players, providing ample opportunities for teams to strategize and rebuild.
