While many current Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Maharashtra are facing challenges in the upcoming election, twelve have a history of winning their seats for five or more consecutive terms. This includes three MLAs who have won seven times in a row from the same constituency.
Among the longest-serving is Congress MLA Balasaheb Thorat. Thorat has held the Sangamner seat for eight consecutive terms since 1985 and is campaigning for a ninth win. When asked about overcoming potential voter fatigue, Thorat told TOI, “The most important thing is to have a clear vision, and one should sincerely work hard for it.”
Dilip Walse Patil (Ambegaon constituency) and Jayant Patil (Islampur constituency) have also secured seven consecutive wins since 1990. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has won every election in Baramati since his initial by-election victory in 1991.
Five additional legislators have maintained their seats since 1995, and another three have remained undefeated since 1990.
