A person on Sunday was detained by security agencies at Kolkata Airport after he falsely claimed that there was a bomb on the plane. He was held from the boarding area of the airport. Security agencies are frisking the plane, said Kolkata Airport sources to ANI.
This comes amid series of bomb threats that several airlines have received in the past few months.
Bomb threats for Kolkata-bound flights
At least seven flights of India-based carriers to and fro Kolkata received bomb threat messages through social media posts on October 28. The threats, however, turned out to be a hoax and flights were operated.
"It was learnt around 2.45 pm that messages were posted on X handle 'I wanna slit your throat' that bombs were planted inside seven flights related to the Kolkata airport," the Director of NSCBI airport, Dr Pravat Ranjan Beuria, said.
Of the seven, five were of Indigo and two were of Vistara, he said. Beuria added that all officials concerned were informed and duty personnel were alerted.
The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) held a meeting after which the threats were declared "non-specific", said Beuria, who is also the Chairman of the panel.
In view of the bomb threats, the BTAC decided to follow the SOP to thwart any untoward incident.
The BTAC committee also instructed all to follow guidelines to avoid panic situations in Bomb threats, he said.
Ammunition cartridge found on flight
Ammunition cartridges were found in the pocket of a seat on an Air India flight AI916 flying from Dubai to New Delhi after it landed at New Delhi airport on October 27. The flight landed at New Delhi Airport and all the passengers were safely disembarked from the flight.
Following this, a complaint was lodged with the Airport Police by Air India strictly adhering to the laid down security protocols.
