France captain Kylian Mbappe seen at a Swedish nightclub on the same night as team beats Israel; row over skipping international duty rumbles on.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Real Madrid star was excused from international duty after a recent thigh injury left him needing some rest. According to Aftonbladet , during France’s match against Israel in the UEFA Nations League, the 25-year-old was seen in the streets of Stockholm with friend. Reports suggested he visited the exclusive restaurant Chez Jolie before heading to a nightclub. Debate about Mbappe’s fitness and his role as c a p t a i n have rumbled on during the international break, but his relationship wit h manager Didier Deschamps remains intact. In his absence, Mbappe’s Aurelien Tchouameni was named captain.

On Mbappe’s absence, Deschamps told reporters: “I have no doubt about Kylian’s commitment but he was not in the best condition during the last gathering. He has a problem which is not serious but he needs treatment to recover. I am not here to take risks. That is why Kylian is not here.”

After a rare chance to rest and recover, Mbappe would hope to fire for Real Madrid as they face Celta Vigo on October 19.
