Mercedes-Benz has launched the latest iteration of its popular E-Class Long Wheelbase (LWB) sedan in India, with prices starting from Rs 78.5 lakh, ex-showroom. The 2024 E-Class brings a series of design updates, tech upgrades, and new engine options to maintain its competitive edge in the luxury sedan segment. Significantly, India remains the only market globally where the right-hand-drive (RHD) version of the long-wheelbase E-Class is produced, which is done at the company's Pune manufacturing facility.

Enhanced Exterior Design and Dimensions
While the overall shape of the E-Class LWB remains recognizable, the 2024 model features several key design changes. The sedan has grown slightly, now measuring 5,092mm in length, with a 15mm increase in its wheelbase, providing more space for passengers. Despite this, the vehicle’s height has been reduced by 2mm, giving it a sportier stance.

The front fascia now sports a larger star-patterned Avantgarde grille, framed by redesigned, slimmer LED headlights. The front bumper has also been reshaped for a more angular appearance, complemented by chrome trim pieces that add a sense of refinement. The rear of the car features newly designed taillights with 3D star-shaped elements inside, mirroring the theme at the front. Flush-fitting door handles, which pop out when needed, give the sides a sleek and modern look, while the rear quarter glass has taken inspiration from the Maybach, enhancing the car's premium appeal.

The sedan is available in five color options, including a new Nautic Blue, along with Obsidian Black, High Tech Silver, Graphite Grey, and Polar White. Mercedes has also added new 18-inch alloy wheels, further refining the car’s appearance.

Luxury and Technology-Filled Interior
Inside, the 2024 E-Class LWB offers an upgraded cabin that emphasizes both luxury and technology. The most significant change is the introduction of the MBUX Superscreen, which includes a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a 14.4-inch central infotainment screen, and an additional 12.3-inch screen dedicated to the front passenger. This wide-screen setup dominates the dashboard and creates a high-tech, immersive driving experience.

For the rear-seat passengers, who are often the focus of the long-wheelbase version, Mercedes-Benz has introduced several comfort-enhancing features. The back seats now come with powered outer seats, headrest cushions, and powered sunblinds. Rear passengers also benefit from a four-zone climate control system and a wireless charging pad.

As for entertainment and convenience, the E-Class LWB is equipped with a 64-colour ambient lighting system and a 730W Burmester 4D sound system with 17 speakers. The car also includes premium features like memory functions for the front seats, soft-close doors, and a powered tailgate.

According to Mercedes-Benz, “We focused on providing a complete luxury experience, from technology to comfort, ensuring the rear-seat passengers have everything they need.”

Safety and Driver Assistance Features
Mercedes-Benz has ensured that the 2024 E-Class LWB meets modern safety standards. The car is fitted with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, and a 360-degree camera system. Additionally, the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems ( ADAS) suite includes features such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.

These enhancements are designed to offer a higher level of safety and convenience to drivers and passengers alike. Mercedes-Benz stated, “Our ADAS system is engineered to make driving safer and more enjoyable, with a focus on preventing accidents and reducing driver fatigue.”

Engine Options and Performance
Under the hood, the 2024 E-Class LWB comes with three engine options, each paired with an automatic transmission. The E 200 variant features a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 194 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The E 220d is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, generating 197 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with Mercedes' nine-speed automatic gearbox.

For those seeking more power, the E 450 4MATIC variant is equipped with a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 380 hp and 550 Nm of torque. Additionally, the E 450 comes with a mild-hybrid system that adds 23 hp and 205 Nm of torque during short bursts, enhancing performance.

Pricing and Availability
The new E-Class LWB is priced at Rs 78.5 lakh for the E 200 variant, while the E 220d is priced at Rs 81.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-spec E 450 4MATIC variant is available for Rs 92.5 lakh. Mercedes-Benz has announced that deliveries for the E 200 and E 220d will begin soon, while the E 450 4MATIC is expected to be available by November.

With its advanced features and luxurious design, the 2024 E-Class LWB is positioned to maintain its appeal in the Indian luxury sedan market.
