The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is waiting for a response from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding India's refusal to play the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi said on November 18. He added that the board had reached out to the ICC concerning the matter.
Earlier this month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI) informed the ICC that it would not send its team to Pakistan for the tournament, requesting the matches be held in a neutral country. The PCB rejected the proposed hybrid model and is seeking clarification from the ICC on India's stance.
“We are directly interacting with the ICC and we are still waiting for a response from them so we can take things forward,” Naqvi said.
India has not played cricket in Pakistan since 2008. Naqvi, who is also the federal interior minister, emphasized Pakistan's willingness to address any concerns India may have.
“If India has any concerns about sending their team to Pakistan they must talk to us and we will remove them. I don't think there is any reason for India not to come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy,” he added.
The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled for February and March. Meanwhile, the PCB confirmed that renovations for the tournament at stadiums in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi are progressing on schedule.
