Rajamouli confesses Suriya has a hidden link to Bahubali. Ace director shares a personal regret

Renowned filmmaker SS Rajamouli, known for his monumental success with Baahubali and RRR, recently expressed his admiration for Tamil star Suriya, revealing how the actor played a pivotal role in shaping his vision for pan-India cinema. Speaking at the pre-release event of Siva’s Kanguva in Hyderabad, Rajamouli made an emotional confession, crediting Suriya for inspiring him to take Telugu cinema beyond its regional boundaries.

"Suriya, You Are My Inspiration"

While a video played at the event celebrating Rajamouli's contributions to pan-India films, the director humbly corrected the narrative. "They just played an AV that I began the pan-India trend and all. But let me tell you frankly, the main inspiration for me wanting to take Telugu cinema beyond AP and Telangana is Suriya," Rajamouli said, acknowledging Suriya's influence.

He shared how Suriya’s approach to promoting his films, particularly during the release of Ghajini (2005), had left a lasting impact on him. "During Ghajini, Suriya would come here to promote his films. I would tell producers and actors that the way he connected with the Telugu audience was a case study. We must push our films in other regions and gain the love of the Tamil audience," Rajamouli added, emphasizing how Suriya's efforts had inspired his own approach to reaching a wider audience across India.

A Missed Opportunity

The heartfelt praise continued as Rajamouli revealed that he and Suriya had once planned to collaborate on a project, but it never materialized. "We were supposed to work on a film together, but it didn’t happen. Suriya once mentioned that it was a missed opportunity for him, but I regret it more. I love his on-screen presence, his acting, and I respect his choice of stories over a filmmaker’s fame," Rajamouli admitted. The director expressed deep admiration for Suriya’s dedication to choosing roles driven by the story rather than the reputation of the filmmaker.

In response, Suriya, visibly touched by Rajamouli's words, shared his feelings: "In a family, if an elder sibling does well, the rest of the family flourishes because you show the way. This journey started long back, sir. I shamelessly admit I missed the train, but I hope I get on board sometime," Suriya remarked, offering a poignant reflection on the director’s influence.

On the work front, Rajamouli is preparing for an action-adventure film with Mahesh Babu, though details about the project remain under wraps. Suriya, meanwhile, is gearing up for the release of Kanguva on November 14, a film that has generated significant anticipation, co-starring Disha Patani and Bobby Deol. He is also set to collaborate with director Karthik Subbaraj on an upcoming project.
