Sabarmati Report: After PM Modi, Amit Shah praises film on Godhra train tragedy; TMC attacks

Send Push
Three days after the Sabarmati Report starring Vikrant Massey released in the theatres and a day after PM Narendra Modi praised it, Union Ministers Amit Shah and Ashwini Vaishnav followed suit on Monday. In a wave of support, praise as well as criticism, social media platform X remained divided over the film as voices from both spectrums flooded it.

The BJP leaders took to X to voice their review of the film, as TMC leader Sagarika Ghose and supporters pounced on the action to attack the saffron party over it.

“No matter how hard a powerful ecosystem tries, it cannot keep the truth hidden in darkness forever. The film #SabarmatiReport defies the ecosystem with unparalleled courage and exposes the truth behind the fateful episode to broad daylight,” wrote Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Ashwini called it a “must watch,” adding in Hindi, “Everyone should know this truth!”

In-charge of BJP's National Information & Technology Dept. Co-incharge West Benga, Amit Malviya shared the film’s trailer and noted how it “is a factual portrayal of the most horrific incident of our time.”

“The #SabarmatiReport is a factual portrayal of the most horrific incident of our times… The 2002 burning of the Sabarmati Express in Godhra, carrying Karsevaks from Ayodhya, among them infant and children. But a clutch of journalists, NGOs and political operatives lied to the whole nation on what transpired on that fateful day. These remorseless, evil cretins made a career out of spreading misinformation and blaming the Gujarat CM and civil administration. They still exist amongst us. Identify and incarcerate them,” his post read.

On the other hand, TMC leader Sagarika Ghose came out with criticism on not just the Ekta Kapoor directed film but also the saffron party leaders’ praise of it. In her post on X, she targeted PM Narendra Modi for talking on the film while neglecting the situation in Manipur that has seen a fresh surge of violence.

“The non biological @narendramodi has time to tweet about a propaganda film #SabarmatiReport (made only to give him a clean chit), has time to collect overseas awards, has time to propagate vacuous slogans like“Ek Hain Toh Safe Hain,” and but has NO TIME to visit #Manipur. NO action on #Manipur & NO accountability on #Manipur. Parliament must be told: what is so special about @NBirenSingh? Why is he still in the CM’s chair with hundreds dead and 18 months of civil war? #manipur_violence #ManipurHorror #manipurconflict #Manipur,” her post read.

Former Union Minister of State Bhagwanth Khuba also took X regarding the Sabarmati Report.

"A fake narrative looses its identity when its time for the truth to open up. "The Sabarmati Report" the explanation for the numerous narratives," he wrote on the social media platform, sharing its trailer.

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari also attended the screening of the film with Actor Vikrant Massey, reported ANI.

PM Modi said on Sunday said that a fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time, while referring to the movie on the Godhra train-burning incident of 2002, when he was the chief minister of Gujarat. Modi made the comments on X, reacting to a user's post praising the movie "Sabarmati Report" for "bringing out the important truth of one of the most shameful events in our recent history".
