Mumbai: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is set to return to the sport - both as an investor and a player - with the launch of the International Masters League (IML), a T20 franchise tournament featuring retired international players.

The inaugural edition of the league, from November 17 to December 8, will include 18 matches played across 3 cities: Mumbai, Lucknow, and Raipur. Around 90 players have signed up to play for the league. Tendulkar's SRT Sports has partnered Sunil Gavaskar's PMG Sports and global sports marketing agency Sportfive to launch this league.

Ownership of the league will be split among the three stakeholders, with Sportfive holding a 50% stake and SRT Sports and PMG Sports holding 24.5% each. Tendulkar will serve as the ambassador while Gavaskar will take on the role of commissioner.

Sources said the league's annual operating budget is likely to be around '200 crore.

The league will feature 6 national teams representing India, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, and South Africa, with the franchises available for sale. PMG Sports CEO Melroy D'souza and Sportfive president APAC Seamus O'Brien said the response to the request for proposal (RFP) process for the sale of franchises has been overwhelming. EY has been tasked with the responsibility of managing the RFP process.
