Under the “PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi” (PM SVANidhi) scheme, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to appoint street vendors as ‘brand ambassadors” in all districts as well as the state’s prominent cities. The government will soon start identifying street vendors in all districts and cities in the state. The government aims to economically empower street vendors, besides acknowledging their significant role in society.
As part of this initiative, the 'SVANidhi Bhi, Swabhiman Bhi' fortnight has been rolled out from November 18 to December 2, 2024. CM Yogi Adityanath has directed the Urban Development Department to ensure the active participation of street vendors and their families in the program.
In accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, the state government has designated members of Town Vending Committees (TVC) and active street vendors as ' SVANidhi Mitras.' These Mitras will help other street vendors in accessing scheme benefits and create awareness about its various provisions.
According to a press release, the state government is encouraging street vendors to adopt digital transactions. The vendors, who earned the highest cashback through digital platforms at events like SVANidhi Deepawali and Makar Sankranti Mahotsav, were honoured by the government earlier. This initiative promotes Digital India, ensuring transparency in earnings while fostering economic inclusivity for street vendors.
The government has also planned to hold free medical and health check-up camps for street vendors and their families during the event. The release, issued by the state government, said this initiative reflects a broader commitment to extending health benefits to underserved communities.
Last year, the SVANidhi Mahotsav was held across all districts from June 1 to July 7. Street vendors and their families actively participated, sharing their experiences, and celebrating their journey.
The release mentioned that the initiatives taken by the UP government under the Pradhan Mantri SVANidhi Yojana will continue to bring transformative changes in the lives of street vendors.
