Team India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant has opened up on Delhi Capitals not retaining him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Replying to a video uploaded by Star Sports on X as Sunil Gavaskar was discussing the Capitals' possibility of buying Pant back, the 26-year-old said his retention was certainly not about the money.
Pant was one of the three IPL captains along with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul to be released by the franchises ahead of the mega auction. The left-handed batter had marked his return to professional cricket in IPL 2024 and registered 446 runs in 13 matches at 40.55. He also kept a strike rate of 155.40.
My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say 🤍
— Rishabh Pant (@RishabhPant17) November 19, 2024
In a video uploaded by Star Sports on X, Gavaskar claimed:
"When KKR won last year (IPL 2024), Shreyas Iyer was the captain. As I said earlier for Rishabh Pant as well, at times, there could be a disagreement on the fees. Delhi will want him because they will also need to find a captain if Rishabh Pant isn't in their team. So I feel Delhi will definitely try to use the RTM card or bring Rishabh Pant back into their team at the auction."
The southpaw replied to that clip and stated:
"My retention wasn’t about the money for sure that I can say."
"Mitchell Starc’s auction record is in danger" - Irfan Pathan
With Pant set to enter the mega auction with a base price of ₹2 crore, ex-Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has backed the youngster to become the most expensive player in the auction. Pathan wrote on X:
"Mitchell Starc’s auction record is in danger. is ready to break it!"
Starc shattered the IPL auction records as he fetched ₹24.75 from the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2024.
