Ecommerce giant Amazon India is reportedly shifting its home office to a new location in Bengaluru, as part of its cost cutting strategy.
As per Mint’s report, the company’s home office, located at World Trade Centre since inception, will be moved to a new office at a closer radius of the Kempegowda International Airport area.
Inc42 has reached out to Amazon India for comments on the development. The story will be updated based on the response.
The company’s initial headquarters in World Trade Centre, is one of the first Amazon India corporate offices. Of the 30 floors present in the trade centre property, 18 floors belonged to Amazon, accommodating about 5,300 people, as per its website.
The shift to a new office space of Sattva, is a 15-minute drive from the airport, and costs less than a third of its present rent at the World Trade Centre, said the report citing two executives.
Also, the relocation is expected to be completed by April 2026.
This development comes at a time when most global companies and homegrown startups have been taking various measures to cut down their expenses.
Companies have been introducing multiple rounds of workforce reduction for over two years now, aimed at managing their costs, while some players have also shut down a few offices.
Very recently, Indian startups such as Kuku FM, Beepkart and 1% Club have laid off employees to manage their expenses.
Additionally, Beepkart has also shrunk its store count by half as part of its cost-cutting exercise.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Nasdaq-listed SaaS major Freshworks revealed its plans of a 13% , affecting about 660 employees, as part of a restructuring plan to streamline operations and increase operational efficiency.
