UP News : Police in Greater Noida of Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh have arrested a man who was cheating women through a matrimonial website. The accused has been identified as 39-year-old Rahul Chaturvedi, who has studied from IIM Bangalore. It is being told that after losing his job in the year 2021, Rahul started cheating women. He cheated more than 16 women of about Rs 8 lakh and several expensive iPhones by creating a fake profile on the matrimonial website. Rahul was living in a rented apartment in Radha Sky Garden Society in Bisrakh, Greater Noida, from where he was arrested.

My path changed after studying at IIM Bangalore

According to DCP (Central Noida) Shakti Mohan Awasthi, Rahul completed his studies as B.Com from a private university in Madhya Pradesh and then completed further studies from IIM, Bengaluru. From 2012 to 2017, he worked as an HR manager in a telecommunication company in Gurgaon and from 2018 to 2021 with another MNC in Bengaluru. However, he lost his job in 2021 and shifted to Noida in 2022, where he started a clothing business with a business partner. But soon he got involved in duping women through matrimonial websites.

Disclosure of fraud

Rahul's fraud came to light when a 40-year-old woman from Greater Noida lodged a complaint at the Bisrakh police station on September 7. The woman said that she had met Rahul through a matrimonial website. The conversation between the two continued for some time, after which Rahul also impressed her and her family. He took about Rs 2.4 lakh from the woman citing his needs, claiming that he needed money for the treatment of his ailing father. Apart from this, he also bought shoes worth Rs 16,000 with that money. When the woman asked for the money back, Rahul blocked her number and started threatening her.

Fraud by creating fake profile

Investigation revealed that Rahul Chaturvedi had created a fake profile on the matrimonial website and also availed its premium membership. He introduced himself as an HR manager in an MNC and used many tricks to win the trust of women. He even used to talk to women as his father, so that no one would suspect him. In this way, he lured many women with his sweet talk and extorted lakhs of rupees from them.

Police arrested the accused

After the arrest of Rahul Chaturvedi, the police said that he has made many women his victims so far. He carried out such heinous acts even after studying from a prestigious institute like IIM. The police said that efforts are being made to recover the cheated money and goods from the accused and every possible effort will be made to punish him under the law. This case has also raised questions on the security and verification system of matrimonial websites.
