RAC means Reservation Against Cancellation. In RAC, you do not get the full lower berth on the side in the train but half. Two people in RAC share this seat among themselves.

Under the rules of Indian Railways, you can also travel by taking a platform ticket in the train. However, after boarding the train with a platform ticket, you will have to immediately go to the TTE and get a ticket to your destination.

The platform ticket confirms from which station you boarded the train. According to media reports, about 22,593 trains are operated every day in India.
