In the major findings of the research, scientists specifically extracted nucleic acid compounds from salmon meal (salmon fish sperm) and torula yeast and used them on cancer cells. The results were surprising. Elements like guanosine were found in the compounds obtained from these sources, which gave impressive results in stopping the growth of cancer cells.

Guanosine played a special role because it prevents cancer cells from starting their growth cycle, which can stop the spread of cancer. This preliminary research suggests that adding guanosine and similar nucleic acids to the diet could help prevent cancer. The study, recently published in the journal PLOS ONE, shows how everyday foods can positively affect the health of cells. Professor Kojima-Yuasa believes this research could pave the way for the development of dietary guidelines and supplements to prevent cancer.
